God outlines for us a great economic lifestyle when we enter into a covenantal relationship with Him. We are privileged to use the 90% He has given us to meet our own personal needs. Then we are to return to Him a minimum of our income - the 10°,6 off the top before taxes. Tithing is His minimum standard. We are to do this not grudgingly or of necessity but cheerfully. "Let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver." (II Cor. 9:8) When giving is cheerful, it will also be generous. God is not primarily occupied with the amount of the gift, but with the motive that lies behind it. After all, everything in the world belongs to God (Psalm 24:1). My gift to Him does not make Him any richer but only indicates my obedience to His commandment. Because I love Him, I tithe my income.
Jesus reaffirmed that we should tithe, and do more for Him - loving God and treating others fairly. He said. "For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass byiustice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the other undone. " (Luke 12:42) But we disobey, thinking that the 90% we have is not 'enough.' We nibble away at the tithes that are God's. Therefore we are cursed by God for we are robbing Him (Malachi 3:8-12)

Isa 9:2 ESV
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shined.
2 Cor 4:6 ESV
For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
